Miller Memorial
Community opened its doors as a retirement village in October of 1976. Located on the grounds of a Meriden estate, the site of the family home of Edward Miller, the
buildings and its 10-acre campus maintain an air of privacy in an urban setting. Miller Memorial Community is noted for its trim cottages, brick and mortar
buildings, fruit trees, and mature, state champion trees.
For
more than a quarter century, Miller has promised a safe and secure retirement for generations of older adults from Greater Meriden.
The
origins of Miller Memorial are deeply rooted in the city’s history. Edward
Miller, a manufacturer of oil and electric lamps, was a successful Meriden
industrialist. His son, Edward Miller, Jr., left his estate to provide for
the area’s older adults. With careful planning, and an inspired vision of
the possibilities for healthy aging, Miller Memorial’s founders created
first a community of cottages. In the years since the cottages were
constructed, a continuum of health care services followed: skilled nursing,
a short-term recovery unit: Center for Orthopedic and Rehabilitative
Excellence and most recently outpatient rehabilitation services.
By the mid-1980s,
Miller had won recognition as a leader in health care services for older adults.
Today, Miller is Meriden's choice for
excellence in senior residential services.
Throughout its history, Miller Memorial has maintained a commitment to
encouraging the highest level of independence possible for the older adults who select the community as their home.
